My Work

My interests and professional experience is in one of the most interesting fields of modern electronics (I think so!), the Digital Signal Processing applications!

According to my experience this is the one and only way in which complicated and advanced numerical methods can be implemented in the real world using advanced technology. It's really an amazing feeling! You have read in the books that a problem can be easily solved using this or that formula, but for people with more practical interest this is only mathematics and is in every aspect boring. But with your first program designed for a Digital Signal Processor you are impressed by looking at the Scope and seeing what you have seen in the books, not as an abstraction but in vivid reality! It's amazing.

Maybe it sounds a little bit romantic, but I'm a strong believer that everything worth in the world is the result of great feelings, enthusiasm and love!

So, my working experience is with the Analog Devices ADSP-21XX Digital Signal Processor. They are 16-bit fixed point machines, which incorporate all important features of a signal processor in a single, low power consuming device. And this features are:

Optimized arithmetic for all computations. The so called MAC-instruction performs a multiplication and an accumulation in a single processor cycle (30ns typical)!
Program sequencing with zero-overhead looping (DO UNTIL loops with minimum overhead)!
Separated data address generators with circular buffering and bit-reversed addressing (useful for FFT).
Three-bus Harvard architecture (Program and Data spaces are separated and the fetches are performed independent). Due to this unique feature the simultaneous fetch of both instruction and two data values is possible.
