Remote Data Link - Modem Control over Remote Devices
This device makes it possible to connect to remote devices with terminal interface (Local Craft Terminal) using a modem. Usually this are devices like multiplexers, crossconnectors, routers and many others, which can be configured or accessed through this terminal port using a personal computer running the interface program. The Remote Data Link makes it possible to stay at home, in a different city or elsewhere and to control your equipment remote. The interface program for the controlled equipment has to be functional on your computer. You have to install an additional interface program to control the Remote Data Link and to specify in this program the location of the original terminal program. Two modems have to be installed: one at your computer location, and the other residing near the remote controlled equipment. The Remote Data Link module is inserted between the modem and the controlled equipment. Different baud rates and port settings can be specified to accommodate exactly the interface of the controlled equipment. For the remote control sessions the PSTN is used. For security critical applications the device provides the additional password option, which allows you to access your remote control equipment after supplying the correct password. The Remote Data Link provides an additional port, which can be configured to retransmit the data flow between the modem and the controlled equipment in both directions (one of them) to a terminal computer, connected to this serial port.
